Plus jamais ça! Never this anymore!

I was told (but you probably already knew it) about a video that is available on You Tube... a video (see below) that wants to show how much drunken Rachid was in Helsinki on the 25th of March. I already published Rachid's officiel reply to the scandal that emerged after that show. However I've decided to publish this video as well in order to be exhaustive on this subject. As a fan of Rachid, I think it is important to collect all kinds of performances, from the best ones to the worst ones: unfortunately this one will not remain in the first category. Finally, I think that, as this video is on line anyway, it is better to face it than doing as if it did not exist.

I would like to add just one thing: I do not undertand why someone uses the great "amateur on-line video fair" to touch people's minds on a topic about which an artist already explained himself publicly. However maybe it is important for an artist to take care about their own image a bit more as, in 2007, it is possible for any anonymous soul to download any kind of image on and from the Internet.
That's why I'd like to say: "Never this anymore!" Scared 2 Please! Thanks. Kelma.

Rachid in Helsinki: official reply

I'm diffusing this message by Rikki Stein about Rachid's performance in Helsinki (Finland), on the last 25th of March. Please watch the video underneath too: it was made before the show and it makes it quite clear that Mr.Taha was very tired at the oment of his arrival in Finland.
"Rachid has asked me to respond for him with regard to what took place at the Savoy Theatre in Helsinki on Sunday night.
OK Let's get the story straight! There's been a lot of crap in the press about this.
First of all, Rachid is fine. He acknowledges that he was, exceptionally, drunk on stage in Helsinki. I say exceptionally because this is the first time among the hundreds of performances that Rachid has presented around the planet, that this has happened. On Thursday night he'd presented a concert at the Bataclan in Paris before all of the French media and music industry. The show was triumphal, followed by an after party in his honour. Rachid celebrated through the night and into the following day. He arrived in Helsinki in a somewhat delicate state and took a couple of stiff drinks, expecting them to fortify him. Unfortunately they had the opposite effect. A lesson learned! He apologises profusely to those who may have been offended.
As for the rest though he strongly rejects the notion of making racist remarks. The dialogue in question was with a group of young Algerians waving an Algerian flag and shouting for him to play some Rai standards. Rachid was telling them that he's not a crooner he's a rocker and if they want to listen to that stuff they should know that there's no point coming to see him. He also used the moment to criticise those Arabs who blindly support totalitarian regimes. This has been his prevailing message for many years in many of his songs and in his interviews with the media and can hardly be described as racism.
As for throwing water at the front rows. Well, rightly or wrongly, he always does that at every show. It's not an act of aggression though. It's a rockers mannerism! As for falling to the stage during Barra Barra, well he always does that too. The fact is that on this occasion because he was canned, he couldn't get up on his own!
I'm told that the Finnish people possess the capacity to forgive the excesses of their favourite troubadours. which we trust will be exercised in this case.
I'd be grateful if you would circulate this response."

Malheureusement, cela a produit l'effet inverse.
