Webeuses, Webeurs (ça vous rappelle quelque chose les anciens ?*), je rentre (très tard) d'un concert de rock. Vous en doutez ? Et bien, je vais essayer de vous convaincre !
Ce soir a l'Elysée Montmartre, nous avons eu droit à un son unique qui n'est pas prêt de se reproduire, je pense (merci à Benoit aux manettes !). Ceci dit, il semble que cela se devrait se reproduire en Russie au mois de mai… mais, là, je n'y serai pas !!!!
En plus de la formation habituelle, en effet, deux artistes majeurs de la scène rock – pop britannique étaient venus d'Angleterre pour le fun, pour le plaisir de jouer avec Rachid (il suffisait de voir leurs sourires sur scène : l'un d'entre eux ne vous surprendra qu'à moitié, puisqu'il s'agit du complice de Rachid : Steve Hillage (avec en coulisses Miquette) ; mais ses riffs célèbres ajoutaient un son particulier et venaient se mêler à ceux plus familiers de Noël Delfin.

Mais la surprise de taille était la présence pendant tout le concert de…. Brian Eno… avec ses percussions, ses machines et les backing vocals qu'il a assurés sur tous les titres… il avait travaillé les paroles aussi !!!!! Et il fallait voir sa mine réjouie pour savoir qu'il ne faisait pas semblant (à quoi bon, d'ailleurs ?) : il y prenait un plaisir évident.

Un son rock donc, tout à fait particulier que je n'ai jamais entendu auparavant dans la bonne douzaine de concerts récents auxquels j'ai assisté. Tous les titres étaient rockés, le bédouin de Bent Sahra, Habina, Medina…
Le ton était rock !!! Et il aura fallu passer par la scène britannique pour que Rachid obtienne son permis de rocker en France !!! Et oui, n'oublions pas qu'il y a tout juste un an, le directeur d'une revue de Rock connue en France a demandé à un journaliste s'il "se portait garant" de Rachid Taha en tant que rockeur, avant d'accepter de publier un papier sur lui !!!

Le public : nombreux, chaleureux, dansant dès le début, très franco-français, alors Rachid les a convaincus d'apprendre quelques mots français nouveaux : choufe choufe (Shuf) ! (Regarde) ; Safi, s-a-f-i : pur (de la même famille que soufisme…). Autre clin d'œil, avec la complicité de Hakim et son mandolute: un hommage au chanteur flamenco Camaròn : "Ça, c'est de l'espagnol ancien qu'on appelle l'arabe….".

Quelques remarques :
-On va arrêter de dire "Olé" ; ils vont croire qu'on parle de religion !
-Je vais pas citer le nom de Bouteflika parce qu'il faut arrêter de dire des gros mots…

Dearest Webbers and Webbettes*, ( hey you oldest fans, don’t you remember these old words?), I ‘ve just come back (very late indeed!) from a rock concert. You are in doubt? Well, I will try to convince you it was!!
This evening, at the Elysee Montmartre, we had the privilege to hear an unique sound, and it will not happen many other times, I think (thanks Benoit for the great production!). Having said that, it seems it will be repeated in Russia in the month of May.... but I won’t be there!!!!
As well as the usual line-up, yes indeed, two major artists of the British rock scene had come from England, for the fun, for the pleasure of playing with Rachid ( it was enough to see them grinning on stage to understand that). One of them should not be too much of a surprise for you, since he is Rachid’s accomplice: Steve Hillage (with his partner Miquette in the wings); but his celebrated guitar riffs added a special sound, mixed with the more familiar sounds of Noel Delphin.
But the greatest surprise, was the presence throughout of ....... Brian Eno with his percussions, his synthesisers and his backing vocals that supported all the songs... He had actually worked on the lyrics as well!!!! And you had to see his expression to know he was not doing as if (what for anyway?) he was really having fun: he was taking an obvious pleasure.
There was thus a very special rock sound, which I had never heard before in the good dozen of Rachid's concerts I attended recently. Everything was given the rock treatment, the bedouin sound of Bent Sahra, Habina, Medina...
The tone was rock!!! And true: Rachid had to pass via the British scene to get his rocking license in France. Let's not forget that it was just one year ago that the director of a rock magazine that is well-known asked a journalist whether he could "guarantee" Rachid was a rocker before accepting to publish an article on him!!!
The audience -numerous, warm- has danced from the start. A very “franco-french” audience: so Rachid convinced them to learn some new French words like "chouffe chouffe" (Shuf! Look!); "Safi , s-a-f-i" (pure…from the same family as Sufism).
Then a homage and a another way to wink at the audience, thanks to Hakim’s friendly accompaniment on his mandolute, to a flamenco singer Camaròn; "this is in ancient Spanish which is called Arabic..."
